A first-time home buyer grant (or first home owners grant) is a grant specifically for/targeted at those buying their first home – perhaps a starter home.Like other grants, the first-time buyer does not hold an obligation to repay the grant. In this respect, it differs from a loan and does not incur debt or interest.

1St Time Home Buyers Grant *TSAHC defines a first-time home buyer as any family or individual that has not owned or had an ownership interest in a home within the past three years. Ownership interest is defined as any person who is living in the home as his or her principal residence and is listed on the deed of trust.

The NHF offers one of the few multi-state first-time homebuyer grants. After you find a participating lender, the down payment assistance program provides up to 5% of the loan amount. This is a non-repayable grant, which means you don’t have to pay it back. This program has income criteria related to FHA, VA, and USDA loans.
The New Home Grant is available for purchases made before 1 July 2017. The New Home Grant (NHG) offered $5,000 towards the purchase of your new home or land. It applied to homes valued at less than $650,000 at the time of purchase, and for land valued at $450,000 or less.
